Using recycled materials, participants will draw inspiration from the Park’s fantastic view of the Manhattan skyline to build and decorate a kite, and then fly it in the Park.

Capoeira is a lively martial art that originated in Brazil over 450 years ago. Taught by Professor Abará, self-defense techniques are concealed by graceful dance moves and spectacular acrobatics set to music.
 
Classes are free and designed for all experience levels. Participants should wear comfortable clothing.

Museum of the Moving Image

Learn about the very first moving images in this 90-minute workshop. Participants will design and create puppets made of paper, then perform with them, casting silhouettes into an animated setting. Ages 8+.

10”x10” panels of artwork donated by over 100 artists from LIC will be auctioned to benefit LIC Arts Open and HS2AR Queens Council on the Arts scholarship program. Starting bids: $100. The registration fee of $10 applied to the winning bid. Bidding closes at 8:30pm.

Chashama

Empirical Rogue (Tim Eliot, Artistic Director), a company comprised of MFA alums of the A.R.T./MXAT Institute at Harvard, will team with chashama to produce a four-actor Romeo and Juliet in a never-before-performed-in space in Long Island City @ chashama (26-15 Jackson Ave.) May 19 through June 10, 2012.
