On Saturday, May 17th, Vernon Boulevard will be closed to vehicle traffic between 50th Avenue and 46th Avenue to create the first LIC Springs! free community block festival! The event is planned through NYCDOT's Weekend Walks program.

Activities will include exercise and dance classes, musical performances, sculpture-making, lego-buildng and more! See below for the list of participants, performances, and activities.  In addition to the festival programs, visitors can explore the neighborhood and experience other events taking place that day including the LIC Arts Open festival running May 14-18, and the LIC Flea outdoor market.

Art Exhibits and Workshops:

BrickHouse Ceramic Art Center - Get dirty! Make a small pinch pot or animal out of clay and explore your inner artist while you shop for one-of-a-kind, beautifully crafted, locally made pottery.

Long Island City Cultural Alliance -Noguchi Museum Workshop: building sculptures from precut cardboard shapes.  All Ages!Museum of the Moving Image - Make a Thaumatrope workshop: using markers, paper, and other simple tools, children make their own thaumatrops, 19th Century optical toys that predate movies.  Recommended Ages 5+

Matted LIC - Serving wine & cheese from SquareWine & Sprits, plus a Jack Sundquist Signing

The Garrett Residence - Art and Sculpture Display as part of the LIC Arts Open

Socrates Sculpture Park & City Harvest - Learn the basics of how to make multiple images through block printing, mono-printing and stamping techniques.  Using natural materials from the park, as well as re-purposed plastic and foam, we will create paintings and patterns with non-toxic paint and ink.

Slovak-Czech Varieties - Woodcarving demonstration & make your own sculpture from scrap materials
